Bridal Portraits – Guaranteeing Beautiful Photos

23 Jul

Consider budgeting for a bridal portrait session before your wedding

In case you’re not familiar with the term, a bridal portrait session is one that is of the bride only. This session is typically done one month before the wedding, although some brides choose to do it on the wedding day or the day after. These photos are typically displayed at the wedding.

One main advantage of doing a bridal portrait session is that you get to see what the whole ensemble looks like before your wedding day. Since your portraits will be done with everything – dress, veil, jewelry, etc. you will get a chance to see how everything works together before your actual wedding. If you decide that you don’t like the way your earrings go with your necklace, you can change it out. Nobody will notice from the pictures if you’re changing minor details. Wearing your dress for a photo session before your wedding will also help you to determine logistical items for the big day, such as comfort of your undergarments and the easiest way to sit down, get through doors, and even use the facilities… hey – it’s going to happen anyway, might as well know the best way to work it!

The second main advantage to doing a bridal portrait session is by doing it on a different day than your wedding – is that you will look relaxed and happy. The stress from your wedding day will not show through in your portraits and you’ll have the opportunity to look your absolute best. You won’t be worrying about if you talked to everyone and if the cake is on time and if the seating chart will work – because you’re avoiding so many of these stresses bridal portraits are often considered much better than wedding day photos, and the difference will show. Just be sure to include the cost of this session in your budgeting.

Bridal portraits are typically taken somewhere other than the reception location. Sometimes brides will choose to have the session done the same place as engagement photos were taken. Ask your photographer if there is a location he/she would recommend and if they charge extra for a different location. Make sure that you choose a location that will show off your personal style as well as the beauty of your wedding gown and accessories. Ask your wedding photographer if they offer a package deal to include your bridal portrait session. If your wedding photographer won’t give you a good deal on your session, don’t hesitate to look for a different photographer. You might also want a photographer with a different style that better suits your personal style as well. Either way, make sure that you spend as much time choosing your bridal portrait photographer as you do your wedding day photographer.

Budgeting and planning for a bridal portrait session will leave you with beautiful portraits commemorating your wedding, for the rest of your life. Treat yourself to a photo session showing off you, relaxed and excited about your big wedding day.

Photography Tips for your Idaho Wedding Guests

Idaho Wedding Photo Tips for Guests

Wedding Photos from Guests - Be Creative and Respectful

Now that Spring is officially here you’re probably gearing up for the wedding season. Most likely, you’ll be attending at least one wedding this year, and you’ll probably bring your camera along with you. Consider these tips before you pull the “trigger”

  • If the bride and groom have hired a professional photographer, take your cues from him/her. Chances are if they’re not taking pictures at a certain time during the ceremony, you shouldn’t be either.
  • Feel free to get creative, but be careful not to get in the professional photographer’s way.
  • Make sure you have your camera “noises” tuned off as much as possible during the ceremony. Noisy beeps might just get in the way of the “I DOs” and you don’t want to be responsible for that.
  • Think Candid. Remember, that even if there is a professional photographer there, nobody is going to be able to capture your unique wedding experience as candidly as you!
  • Consider your surroundings. If you’re sitting at a reception table, ask the folks you’re about to take a picture of to stand up so you’re not getting  table full of half eaten food in the mix. Or, consider zooming in real close so you’re filling the entire picture with a perfect expression of one or two guests’ faces.
  • Keep kids in mind. Children have an innate ability to convey very animated expressions. Take advantage of this – utilize a wedding favor or borrow a bridesmaid’s bouquet and see what happens.
  • Most of all – be creative and HAVE FUN!

Sometime the absolute best wedding pictures come purely out of luck. I know one of my favorite pictures was taken by a dear friend attending my ceremony. So… don’t forget your camera and help contribute to beautiful Idaho wedding memories this year!

Green Wedding Planning

16 Oct
Planning a green wedding - casual gown

Find a gown made of natural fibers and avoid tuxedos

Picture the typical landfill on a windy day: paper napkins blow in the breeze; paper plates skim across the ground, which is littered with plastic forks and spoons. Much of this waste is generated at weddings and other social events. You can do your part to reduce landfill waste and help the environment by making wise choices as you plan your wedding. It takes only a few changes to make a big impact on the amount of generated waste. Following are suggestions for environmentally friendly choices that you can easily incorporate into your wedding.

Attire - When choosing a gown, look for one made from natural, not synthetic, fibers. Yo
u will find beautiful gowns made from raw silk, linen, cotton, hemp, and other materials. You might also borrow a gown or wear your mother’s or sister’s. The groom and his attendants might wear suits, which can be worn in the future, instead of renting tuxedos, which require cleaning after every wearing.

Photography - Choose a photographer who shoots digitally. This will save on film, packaging, and developing. Ask about albums that use less paper or that are made from recycled paper or another fiber, such as cotton or bamboo.
